During my first year of service as a Peace Corps Volunteer, I worked with the YMCA of Peru in El Milagro, a small town on the outskirts of Trujillo. El Milagro is the home to the regional land fill and state prison.
Basic Computer Skills Training
Peace Corps sponsored a workshop for youth in Trujillo. My counterpart, Alica, helped our representative, Osman, in the three day event.
Small Business Project
I have taught our mother's group how to make hand-beaded earrings for a small business project.
Bicycle Club
As a member of the Trujiillo Bicyle Club, I am able to help in children's racing events and family field trips.
Volunteer Group Translator
When volunteer groups, like the Berkshire Mission Medical Group, visit the Trujillo area, I volunteer my Spanish skills.
Self Esteem Workshop
To help motivate the mother's group to start small business projects, I facilitate self esteem activities, like the Confidence Web.
English Class
I hold two English classes a week for the children of the YMCA program.
Dental Health Workshop
To help foster healthy dental habits, I held a three session workshop on how to brush your teeth. Toothbrushes were donated by the YMCA.
